North Carolina Cooperative Extension Service, a part of North Carolina State University, North Carolina A&T State University, and McDowell County, provides research-based information to the citizens of McDowell County from children to senior citizens. The Cooperative Extension office in McDowell County has seven employees. Four Extension Agents and two Program Assistants provide leadership for the areas of 4-H Youth Development, Family and Consumer Sciences, Agriculture and Community Development.
The mission of the Cooperative Extension is to help individuals, families and communities put research-based knowledge to work to improve their lives. Our programs address local needs which are determined by advisory committees. All programs provided by Cooperative Extension are available to the general public.
Volunteers are a necessary part of our Department and we welcome volunteer assistance. Our office is located on the second floor of the County Services building.
